Scripture:
And at midnight Paul and Silas prayed, and sang praises unto God; and the prisoners heard them. And suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken; and immediately all the doors were opened, and every one's bands were loosed. Acts 16:25-26
Devotion:
The entire book, known as the The Acts of the Apostles, provides a historical account of the spreading of the gospel after the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Endowed by the Holy Spirit, followers of the Savior made it their mission to spread the good news of salvation. Paul and Silas found themselves jailed after setting the enslaved damsel free. They used their situation to pray and worship God. This worship led to the shackles that had them bound to fall off. The jailer and his family accepted Jesus Christ on the same night. Never underestimate the power of your prayer and worship on others.
Prayer:
Dear Father, we come before you with gracious hearts. We thank you for the gift of salvation. We thank you for the loving-kindness of your son, Jesus Christ, who thought enough of us to reconcile us back to you. Lord, help us always to remember the strength of prayer and worship. Open our hearts to always think of its impact on others. All these blessings we ask in the holy, righteous and loving name of Jesus Christ! Amen.
