Sing a New Song

Updated: Jul 24, 2020

Scripture

Observation (What does it say?)

Application (What does it say to me?)

Prayer

S - Psalm 98:1 “Sing to the LORD a new song, for he has done marvelous things.”

O - Pondering the work of God puts a song in our hearts and on our lips.

A - The psalmist speaks often of singing and using songs to praise God. It almost seems like a reaction he can’t avoid. The urge to sing bubbles up within him and finds its way into songs of praise, adoration and thanksgiving. He doesn’t sing the same old tune but urges his readers to sing a new, fresh song. God’s mercies are new every morning! A new day, new opportunities, a fresh start - all reasons to sing a new song. No need to play the broken records of regret, bitterness, despair or negative thoughts. A new song of praise and gratitude will chase the old tunes away and give us a spring in our steps, a smile on our faces and a tune that will draw others to follow Christ. God can write a new song in our hearts if we take the time to listen…and then sing it!

P - Lord, you are great, and greatly to be praised! Thank you for a new song.
